Biography

Antisthenes was an ancient Greek philosopher and a pupil of Socrates. He is regarded as the head of the Cynic school and master of Diogenes. Antisthenes first learned rhetoric under Gorgias before becoming an ardent disciple of Socrates. He developed the ethical side of Socrates' teachings, suggesting an ascetic life. In conformity with his theory, the supreme good is a virtue that is achieved through numerous aches, pleasures, passions and honors.
